Social Media in Asia: Changing Paradigms in Communication
Edited by: Rachel Khan and Azman Azwan Azmawati
This book contributes to a better understanding of social media within the context of Southeast Asian countries, with the addition of Sri Lanka. The contributors here are primarily Asian academics and practitioners, immersed in the fields of media and communication. Social media has changed the paradigm of communication in the region: as an avenue for free expression; as a tool for news gathering and news distribution; as an aid in crime prevention; and even as a means to find a lifelong partner.

Media and Culture: Global Homogeneity and Local Identity
Edited by: Rachel Khan
This book explores media’s role in promoting the local culture vis-à-vis the global media trend. Select papers from the recent international conference of the Asian Congress for Media and Communication examine the growing role of the mass media’s cultural influence and how it can be either a hindrance or a help in promoting local cultures instead of serving as a tool for global homogenization..

Examining the Socio-Political Economy of Communication
The Asian Congress for Media and Communication in partnership with The College of Communication National Chengi University Taiwan
This study attempts to study the nature-characteristics and communication dynamics of Duterte’s supporters-fans from the outsiders’ perspective — exploring how support for Duterte is communicated inside Facebook groups catered to Filipino supporters in the Middle East. Through the utilization of Social Construction of Technology Theory and the Cultural Economy of Fandom, the researchers used the textual analysis method to analyze texts, in the form of Facebook posts and comments, that the supporters have produced and circulated within their Facebook groups.

The theme of the ACMC 2018 Conference seeks to initiate a discourse on the paradoxes
brought about by these challenges to mass media and communication as a result of the
emerging social media and the changing sociopolitical economy of media institutions.n..
